Seawall repair in Deerfield Beach
Deerfield Beach sits in Broward County, which set a county-wide seawall elevation standard rather than leaving it to each city, the way Palm Beach County does.
Broward County's countywide standard
Broward County adopted a resilience standard requiring a minimum elevation of 4 feet NAVD88 by 2035 and 5 feet NAVD88 by 2050 for seawalls and shorelines in tidally influenced waterways, written into the county's land use plan and code of ordinances. Coastal municipalities, which include Deerfield Beach, get two years from county adoption to bring their own local ordinances into compliance. That is a different structure from Palm Beach County, which has no countywide seawall elevation ordinance. Boca Raton's own 4.0 to 6.0 foot NAVD88 rule is a city standard, not a Palm Beach County one.

Questions homeowners ask
What is Broward County's seawall elevation standard?
A minimum of 4 feet NAVD88 by 2035 and 5 feet NAVD88 by 2050 for seawalls and shorelines in tidally influenced waterways, set at the county level and then written into each coastal city's own code within two years.
Is that the same rule as Boca Raton?
No. Boca Raton sets its own 4.0 to 6.0 foot NAVD88 range at the city level. Deerfield Beach follows Broward County's countywide 4 to 5 foot phase-in instead.
